Twenty years of one crossing, done properly

Island Transfers is the official transfer operator for Palm Bay Resort on Long Island. We run one route and one boat, and we have kept both simple on purpose.

Why Shute Harbour

The short crossing exists because of where we leave from

Most transfer operators in the Whitsundays run from Airlie Beach. We run from Shute Harbour Marine Terminal instead, a few minutes further along the coast road but noticeably closer to the islands themselves, which is where the shorter crossing time to Palm Bay Resort actually comes from.

That proximity is the whole basis of the business. We have spent two decades scheduling around it: mid morning and late afternoon departures that fit a guest's actual travel day, and return runs from Palm Bay early enough that nobody is racing a flight home.

The boat changed more recently than the route. In 2017 we moved to the Dalengi, a catamaran built specifically for these conditions, with a bow designed to cut through the swell that builds up in the passage rather than slam into it, and a ramp at the bow that lands straight up the beach at Palm Bay so nobody steps off into the water.

None of it is complicated. One boat, one resort partnership, one crossing, run to a schedule that has had twenty years to get right.
